In Lower Austria, several maypoles were felled or felled on the night of May 1. Particularly dangerous was the action in Wullersdorf, where a giant tree simply remained lying on the road.
“I can’t imagine what happened here!” the Florianis in Wullersdorf in the Hollabrunn district are annoyed. Strangers felled their maypole on Sunday night. The 25 meter high trunk then crashed on the provincial road, where it just missed a power distribution box. After that, the tree just stayed on the road.
“Bub is now done and done”
But not only the local fire brigade is inconsolable, a nine-year-old boy is also particularly affected. He had won the tree in the lottery hours earlier and was happy to be on the site for a month now. “He’s all set now,” says a comrade.
Loved for security reasons
The annoyance is also great in St. Pölten. In the Ragelsdorf district, the maypole was also cut down and left in a field. “We have photographic evidence. Without quick compensation, there will be a report,” says the fire brigade. In Wiener Neudorf, however, the tree was felled in two places.
For safety reasons, the fire brigade had to cut it itself shortly before the start of the May Festival. There was also a similar incident in the main square in Neunkirchen. Because “imminent danger” was threatening here too, the Florianis had to intervene.
Vortex over SPÖ flag
On May 1, however, there was political unrest again: not only did a “Soviet flag” of the local left-wing socialists cause a stir in the center of Krems – that in Münchendorf, Mödling district, another SPÖ flag was hoisted on a community pole, pushing the ÖVP sour. State party leader Bernhard Ebner: “That is a sign of poverty and shame for others!”
