A 23-year-old from Stuhlfelden in the Salzburger Pinzgau fell asleep on Tuesday evening while preparing a meal on the stove. The fire department rescued him at the last minute.
A neighbor of the man was startled from her sleep at around 2:05 am in the Stuhlfelden apartment complex. She was awakened by the deafening sound of a smoke detector. Thick smoke was already coming from the 23-year-old’s apartment.
Neighbor called the fire department
Because it did not open, the residents of the house called the fire brigade. The emergency services gained access to the apartment of the young Pinzgauer through the balcony. Firefighters woke up the sleeping man and rescued him from the smoky apartment. The rescue service and firefighter treated the man and took him to Zell am See hospital.
The police assume that it is very likely that a forgotten pan on the stove was the cause of the fire.
