Another drone strike? – Fire in fuel depot at the Crimean bridge

Date:

Another fire broke out at a fuel depot on the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula on the Black Sea. According to the responsible governor, it is a “fire of the highest difficulty class”.

The fire broke out in the village of Volna in Temryuk district, Governor Veniamin Kondratyev reported on his Telegram channel. “Everything is being done to prevent further spread.” There is no danger to the residents of the village, said the politician. So far there have been no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is still unclear. However, drones had recently attacked a fuel depot in the port city of Sevastopol and caused a similar fire.

The place is located near the Crimean Bridge, which connects mainland Russia with Crimea. Videos posted on Russian social media showed flames and black smoke billowing from large tanks labeled “Flammable” in red. Reuters could not immediately independently verify the information and the recordings.

The European Commission wants to stimulate ammunition production
Ukraine rarely claims attacks on Russian-controlled territory. Over the weekend, however, the Ukrainian military said the undermining of Russian logistics was part of preparations for a long-awaited counter-offensive. In order to meet the required ammunition requirement, the European Commission wants to increase production in Europe. One billion euros has been set aside for this. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Tuesday evening that a bill on the ammunition plan will be presented to the College of EU Commissioners on Wednesday. Among other things, it should ensure that regulations are simplified and approval procedures are speeded up. According to the Commission’s proposal, EUR 500 million of EU money should be made available to finance the expansion of ammunition production. According to the plans, an additional EUR 500 million would be co-financed by the Member States. This is good news for Ukraine, but also strengthens European defense capabilities, von der Leyen said.

According to Ukrainian information, Russia carried out night attacks on Kiev for the third time in six days on Wednesday night. “All enemy targets were identified and shot down in the airspace around the capital,” Kiev’s military government told Telegram. Russia had used Iranian-made Shahed drones in the attacks, it said.
