Ironically, in front of officials who happened to be filling up with gasoline, a fraudster sold his cheap goods at an outrageous price. A pensioner in Krems got his money back as a result.
The best cooking pots, the sharpest knives and other high-quality kitchen utensils at top prices are currently increasingly being promised by foreign gangs in parking lots. The problem with this: they are particularly low-quality counterfeits that should be sold straight out of the trunk at exorbitant prices.
Already paid 400 euros
In Krems, a pensioner almost fell for it. After being convinced of the goods by a 36-year-old Romanian man at a gas station, he eventually paid 400 euros for pots. Fortunately for him, plainclothes police officers came by to fill up at just this moment. They noticed the vicious rip-off and initially tried to talk to the victim inconspicuously. When the situation was clear, they confronted the Romanians with the accusations. He returned the money – and was set free for attempted fraud.
Similar cases were also reported from the Zwettl district, where the perpetrators were able to escape with cash. “We call not to buy anything from these gangs and to report suspicious sightings,” said a police officer.
