By military ship – another Austrian evacuated from Sudan

Another Austrian was evacuated from Sudan as part of an EU action. The Vienna Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed this on request on Friday evening. Accordingly, the man was able to leave the country “on a Spanish ship.”

According to the foreign ministry, “a handful of Austrian citizens who are unwilling to leave the country” are still registered as residing in Sudan.

162 EU citizens brought to safety
A total of 162 EU citizens have been brought to safety on the Spanish military ship, according to a spokesman for the European External Action Service (EEAS). The Italian news agency ANSA reported that they are citizens of Italy, France, Germany, Sweden and Austria.

At the end of April, 50 Austrians were evacuated
So far, a total of 2,500 EU and non-EU citizens have been deported through joint European actions. According to information from the end of April, about 50 Austrians have been evacuated abroad, about half of whom are children. The evacuation took place with Dutch and German aircraft.
