A serious traffic accident occurred on the southern motorway A2 in Carinthia on Monday. At 10:05 p.m. in the municipality of Velden (towards Italy), a 56-year-old woman slipped with her car for unknown reasons and collided with the crash barrier.
The vehicle of the 56-year-old woman and her husband came to a stop in the second lane. “A subsequent 25-year-old car driver from the St. Veit/Glan neighborhood was unable to stop her vehicle in time and collided with the stationary vehicle of the 56-year-old,” police said.
“During the collision, the 56-year-old passenger and husband of the driver of the first car was thrown from the vehicle and landed on the road.”
The two 56-year-olds were taken by the rescue team to the Klagenfurt clinic, where the husband succumbed to his serious injuries. The severity of the 56-year-old’s injuries is currently unknown.
The 25-year-old woman from the St. Veit/Glan district and her 26-year-old passenger were also taken to the UKH Klagenfurt with unknown injuries. During the investigation into the accident, the southern A2 motorway was closed to all traffic.
But that was not the first tragedy to unfold on the streets of Carinthia this week. Already on Monday evening there was a serious car accident with three deaths.
