Delivery man in hospital – the engine of a parcel delivery van caught fire

In the municipality of Laterns, in Vorarlberg, the delivery van of a parcel service went up in flames on Monday. While driving, the parcel deliverer noticed white smoke rising from the engine compartment. She stopped the vehicle and soon after, the engine caught fire.

The 34-year-old parcel delivery driver had the presence of mind to stop her vehicle at around 12:15 a.m. when she saw white smoke billowing from the engine compartment and the smell of fire and smoke slowly spread throughout the van. She quickly began unloading packages from the hold. Moments later, the entire engine compartment was already on fire.

The first attempts to remove it were unsuccessful
Passers-by came to the aid of the woman and tried to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher. However, this was only moderately successful. The fire was under control, but not extinguished. Only the Laterns Fire Department got the fire under control and extinguished the fire.

The 34-year-old driver was taken to the Feldkirch regional hospital for a check-up by the rescue service. There was significant damage to the vehicle. The Laterns Fire Department was deployed with two vehicles and 15 men.
