Truck toll: what now?

The Supreme Court of the Basque Country (TSJPV) confirmed this on Monday the compensation established by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa for heavy vehicles along the entire route of the N-1 and A-15dismissing almost entirely the appeal against the formal regulations filed by the National Federation of Transport Associations of Spain, phenadismer.

The new toll system for heavy vehicles entered into force in Januaryreplacing the two previous ones that were rejected by the courts in 2018 and 2021. Also in Bizkaia, that same week, the truck toll went into effect. But what does the recent approval mean? What are the practical effects of applying the current formal regulation?

Here’s how things are:

GIPUZKOA

At which points is toll charged?

– N-1: Etzegarate, Ordizia, Tolosa, Andoain, Lasarte-Oria

– A-15: Astigarraga, Belabeta

Will there be discounts?

The sentence recognizes one of the points of appeal, the one that claimed the formal standard violate European rules by not giving discounts for less polluting heavy vehicles. However, the County Council already corrected this point in December.

This is how trucks and cranes with efficient engines benefit discounts ranging from 15% to 25% on the rate, depending on the type of engine:

– discount d25%: heavy electric, hybrid and gas-powered vehicles, vehicles with the O and ECO label of the General Directorate of Traffic Classification (DGT)

– 20% discount: heavy vehicles EURO 6

– 15% discount: heavy vehicles EURO 5

– The frequency reduction will be added to this discount in October, which will then be considered discounts up to 13%

BISCAYE

At which points is toll charged?

– N-240: Usansolo, Bedia, Apario, North Igorre, South Igorre, Arantzazu, Areatza, Zeanuri, Barazar

– BI-625: Arakaldo, Zollo, Bakiola, Ugao-Miraballes, Zaratamo, Lapatza 1, Irubide

Will there be discounts?

– 10% off: heavy vehicles type I and II on the AP-8 highway and the Supersur variant

Are all vehicles charged with VIA-T?
