This confusion can have legal ramifications for a caretaker in a Carinthian prison for bodily harm.
Because there was apparently a confusion with the classification of medicines in the infirmary of the prison ward in Rottenstein, prisoners were given the wrong medicines. The healthcare provider responsible would have made this mistake three times! “The consequences of switching medicines cannot be underestimated and, depending on the type and dosage, can even lead to death,” explains a doctor.
In the infirmary in Rottenstein, a prisoner is said to have changed injection ampoules twice in a row. He was given diabetes medicine instead of rheumatism medicine. The result was dangerous hypoglycemia.
“The nurse has since been removed from the ward. A report has also been filed with the Chief Public Prosecutor. An investigation is being conducted,” confirms Lieutenant Colonel Harald Streicher of Klagenfurt Prison. Whether the caregiver, who is presumed innocent, must answer for negligent bodily harm has yet to be decided.
