A father rushed his son to the emergency room of the Floridsdorf clinic. But he didn’t even get to see a doctor. The reason: the forgotten e-card.
Oskar B. was shocked when his two-year-old son fell at a children’s party and landed with his head on the edge of a staircase. The family immediately went to the nearest hospital. The next shock came in the children’s ward of the Floridsdorf Clinic. Because B. didn’t have Jonathan’s e-card with him, nor could he remember the insurance number in the excitement.
Injury was not an emergency
“The lady at the registration desk said to my wife, ‘We won’t accept it without a social security number.’ I said this shouldn’t be a problem in an emergency. Her colleagues then said it wasn’t an emergency,” he says. No doctor saw his son.
In order not to lose time, they left the emergency room to go to another hospital. Because of a hailstorm, B. decided to call in the rescue service. “They recognized the urgency and picked us up at the clinic in Floridsdorf and took us to the clinic in Donaustadt,” explains B. The missing e-card was no problem there. “Jonathan was treated well and was able to leave the hospital the same day,” says B. However, the way he was treated at the clinic in Floridsdorf shocked his father.
The “Krone” asked the Vienna Health Association how this could happen. According to a spokeswoman, everything went smoothly.
WIGEV: “A matter of interpretation”
“Because the two-year-old patient was suspected of a concussion or a skull fracture, it was necessary to examine him in an outpatient clinic for pediatric surgery (Note: Clinic Donaustadt). The transfer from Floridsdorf to Donaustadt was therefore justified. Only: little Jonathan was not nor was his father told, according to his statement, to go there. When asked about this, the WIGEV spokeswoman argued that this was the father’s interpretation. However, it cannot be verified whether the clinic in Floridsdorf notified the rescue service.
