“Someone is floating in the Enns and is crying out for help” – two young men alerted city employees in Steyr around 11:10 am on Monday. They immediately raised the alarm, but even a large-scale action by the rescue services was to no avail.
The duo had reportedly spotted a person floating in the Enns near the local wharf and calling for help. The alarm caused the water brigade, the water rescue service, the technical platoon and fire brigade 2 of the city fire brigade to leave. All bridges were occupied. The police helicopter with thermal imaging camera was also asked for support. But no one was found and the search was called off after about an hour.
The police are skeptical
Perhaps the whole big action was caused by a particularly bad joke. Because one of the two witnesses could no longer be found. His companion later reported to the police and stated that he had not seen the drowning man himself, but had only been informed by his friend.
