After the fire in Vienna-Simmering, in which an apartment fire spread to the roof structure, the residents of 25 units were accommodated in emergency shelter. The resident of the fire apartment had to be rescued with the turntable ladder.
According to fire brigade spokesman Christian Feiler, the fire broke out on the fifth floor under the roof structure. When emergency services arrived late on Wednesday afternoon, the apartment was already completely on fire.
While firefighting efforts began, the resident was rescued using a turntable ladder. A bouncy castle was also set up for safety reasons. One staircase in the large building complex had to be completely evacuated and two other stairwells had to be partially evacuated, according to Feiler.
Because 25 units were uninhabitable, people were housed in emergency shelters. The group of emergency measures has set up a meeting point on site for those affected, it was announced in a broadcast on Thursday.
Clothing and medicine taken from apartments
Some families were housed in municipal facilities and rooms were organized for others in surrounding hotels. Working closely with firefighters, the emergency measures group escorted residents back to their homes to collect necessary personal items such as clothing and medicine, said Walter Hillerer, head of the emergency measures group, who thanked the helpers.
