A man in a Spiderman mask used a hammer and chisel to attack a statue by controversial sculptor Eric Gill at the BBC’s London headquarters.
On Saturday morning, the man climbed onto scaffolding set up for repairs to the statue that had been attacked earlier and hoisted a banner sharply criticizing the public broadcaster and the police. Initially, the police did not intervene.

The British sculptor Eric Gill (1882-1940) recorded the sexual abuse of his daughters in his diaries, which were published long after his death. He is also said to have had an incestuous relationship with a sister and attacked the family’s dog.
