Five of the eight mountaineers from the Czech Republic gave up completely exhausted when crossing the Tennengebirge early Friday evening. They had to be flown into the valley by a police helicopter and one of them was hospitalized with a circulatory collapse. The three-day tour in the state of Salzburg was offered on a website, the alleged guide was shown, the police said.
Due to the often still deep winter conditions, the group progressed slowly on Friday. Since some participants were severely exhausted and hypothermic after breaking in the medium-deep snow, they alerted the mountain rescue service and the police at 6 p.m. Five people were rescued and flown into the valley, three descended independently.
Tour booked on the Czech website
An investigation showed that the tour was offered on a Czech website for beginners, but that the 33-year-old guide was probably not trained as a mountain guide. He was reported for endangering physical safety and suspected negligent bodily harm.
