That doesn’t happen every day either: the regional court in Linz called the police emergency number on Wednesday morning. The reason was a trial against a critic of the corona measure. Since individual spectators could no longer enter the courtroom, they threatened to storm the premises.
About 70 fans of the suspect wanted to attend the trial on Wednesday. After about 40 spectators had been admitted, the court closed: the courtroom was full. As a result, individual visitors who were no longer allowed in told security personnel that they would storm the building, court spokesman Walter Eichinger said. So the police were called for help.
The operation went peacefully
“Everything went peacefully,” the police officer reported to the “Krone” afterwards. However, the management could not find out who was responsible for organizing the rush to the court: all visitors stated that they were here as individuals. According to the police, everything remained calm.
libel accusation
While his “fans” waited outside, a 48-year-old journalist had to answer to the judge inside. In the autumn of last year, he thought critically of the Federal President in his online medium on corona measures, including the following words: “A man who violates the constitution.”
The prosecution then charged him with libel. The accused pleaded “not guilty” with reference to freedom of the press – and was right. The acquittal is not yet final.
