The landslide in Hörbranz in Vorarlberg is moving again. In the past two days, it has moved 93 centimeters. Previously it was only 15 centimeters a day, so the landslide has accelerated. The reasons for this are still unclear.
Against all hope and signs to the contrary, the slope in Hörbranz slipped faster. According to geologists, the renewed rainfall should not be the cause. What caused the acceleration is still unclear at this time. The hand is currently being drained further. Still, according to mayor Andreas Kresser, it is impossible to relieve the entire pressure of the rock masses on the slope. There is still hope that the slope will settle down again.
Only at the end of April a landslide of about 150 meters can occur in Hörbranz. Since four homes were in the acute danger zone, they had to be evacuated. Two of the houses can no longer be saved.
Severe damage to houses
Demolition has already started on one because it was in danger of falling onto the road used for work on the slope. The second will not be canceled for the time being, as site traffic would hamper slope stabilization too much. The third building has a slope of 1.20 meters. Says the mayor: „It makes you dizzy, the curtains hang crooked.” You still need to discuss how to proceed. The fourth, newest house is already crooked, but still has the best chance of being saved.
Evacuated residents received
The residents of the houses ran away two weeks ago. According to Kresser, they are taken care of and secured. The mayor also emphasizes how difficult the current situation is for families who have moved. Still, gratitude towards all helpers prevails.
