Three injured – Eternit’s roof broke and an elevator crashed

Date:

Three workers were killed in two accidents in the Innviertel (Upper Austria). All the victims were so badly injured that they had to be flown to hospitals by rescue helicopters. The accidents were completely unforeseen and happened almost to the minute!

11:20 am: In St. Pantaleon in the Braunau district, a 44-year-old with a 60-year-old employee transported furniture to the 1st floor of a building in St. Pantaleon. They used an old freight train installed in the building. When they took him to the 1st floor, the metal cable suddenly broke and the elevator fell about 5.8 meters into the basement of the building
The two men were seriously injured – one of them even broke both his legs. The 44-year-old was able to make an emergency call himself with his mobile phone. The scene of the accident had to be evacuated by the fire service before the victims could be rescued together. The two seriously injured were then flown to hospital with the emergency medical helicopters “Martin 3” and “Christophorus 6”.

11.30am: In Ried im Innkreis, a 25-year-old from Waldzell was standing seven meters high on an Eternit roof when a plate broke under him. The worker fell uncontrollably onto the concrete floor and suffered serious injuries. He came by rescue helicopter to the accident hospital in Linz.
