After tumultuous scenes played out for the police inspectorate in the Tyrolean district capital of Imst in November last year, the detectives were now able to track down 14 suspicious young people. The group had previously disrupted an event in the city several times, so an 18-year-old was arrested. When a dozen of his colleagues demanded his “release”, a protracted scuffle with the police ensued.
The now identified young people from the districts of Landeck, Imst, Innsbruck-Land, Innsbruck and Kitzbühel will soon have to report to the Imst police station because of the attempted violent entry, on suspicion of attempted resistance to state authority and suspicion of attempted twice responsible for burglary, the executive said on Thursday.
In the course of the investigation, a serious robbery with a knife could also be clarified. Part of the group would have committed this against a 14-year-old.
Caused a stir during the event
The young people had agreed to meet in an underground car park on November 26 last year and then repeatedly disrupted an event taking place nearby. During the interrogations, there was no identifiable motive for why the event became a target, a police officer told the APA at the time, but alcohol was certainly involved.
Deployment after arrest
At around 11 p.m., an 18-year-old Austrian from the group behaved aggressively towards the officers who intervened and was eventually apprehended. A short time later, about ten to fifteen of his companions gathered in front of the police station and wanted to gain entry.
More arrests followed
Meanwhile, a 15-year-old local man was seen vandalizing a parked car. When police tried to establish his identity, the boy fled. After a short chase, he was also arrested and taken to the police station. As a result, other sympathizers and spectators gathered in front of the post and four more arrests were made for aggressive behavior and brawls with several participants.
The situation did not calm down until around midnight when several additional police patrols arrived from the Landeck district and from Innsbruck. The arrested were released around 00.45 am.
