A 71-year-old entrepreneur from Slovenia left Seebergstraße (B82) with his trailer near Miklauzhof in Carinthia on Friday morning and fell on the steep bank of the river Vellach. The man was seriously injured.
The entrepreneur was driving between Bad Eisenkappel and Miklauzhof on Seebergstraße (B82) with his truck and an unloaded semi-trailer at around 8:35 a.m. when he left the road to the right in Rechberg, broke through the metal railing attached to the embankment wall and fell over the three meters high dike wall.
Fortunately, the truck combination that overturned in a row was intercepted by the trees and came to a stop on the right side of the vehicle just before the river Vellach.
Driver seriously injured
Despite the serious injuries, the driver was able to free himself from the driver’s cab and, after initial medical attention, was flown by rescue helicopter to the UKH Klagenfurt. As a precaution, the fire brigades of Rechberg, Miklauzhof, Bad Eisenkappel, Peratschitzen and Völkermarkt had to set up an oil barrier over the Vellach and drain the fuel from the tank and the hydraulic oil.
Only then could the truck be recovered. The fire service was not able to return until eight hours later.
