The Spanish Aliona Bolsova fell in the final round of the preliminary phase of Roland Garros, but was saved by the organizers as a lucky loser, so there are thirteen Spaniards who will compete in the individual draw of the second Grand Slam of the year.
Bolsova, eighth finalist in 2019, when she became one of the surprises of the tournament, will play for the third time in the final draw in Paris, where in 2020 she fell in the first round. Her first opponent was Slovakian Kristina Kucova.
Four other Spaniards will compete in the women’s draw. They are Cristina Bucsa, who will debut against the Polish Iga Swiatek, world number one and defending champion, Rebeka Masarova, Sara Sorribes and Nuria Parrizas.
In the men’s there will be eight names, after Pedro Martínez managed to qualify in the previous stage.
Led by Carlos Alcaraz, world number one and one of the main favorites for the final victory, there are also Bernabé Zapata, Roberto Carballés, Alejandro Davidovich, Roberto Bautista, Albert Ramos and Jaume Munar.
Alcaraz learned this afternoon the identity of his first rival when the men’s preliminary phase is settled. It will be the Italian Flavio Cobolli, 159 in the world, which he has never faced.
