A “pilot project” by the city is causing a stir among Viennese motorists. To reduce traffic congestion caused by cars, 441 parking signs would be withdrawn from circulation every month – fate decides who it hits. There was detailed background information on a website in the design of the city. But the city knew nothing about the action and speaks of “fake news”.
Dive station initiative?
Behind “Auto-Los” is said to be a citizens’ initiative. But unlike the climate stickers, these activists quickly got up to speed. The homepage and email addresses are now deactivated. But the whole thing is not a joke, after all, flyers were provided with an official sticker from the police judge or false speeding tickets were printed with license plate, color and car model.
Currently legal assessment
The city also started looking for clues. “We have checked our system for illegal access. Nobody broke into our house,” says Gernot Zechmeister, head of the advertising agency Insyde, which manages the site for the city. This was imitated by the activists.
