Trial in Vorarlberg – rapist must be behind bars

Date:

A 44-year-old Turk had repeatedly threatened, coerced and raped his ex-wife. For this he has now been sentenced by the regional court in Feldkirch (Vorarlberg).

“For my client it is important that her ex-husband remains under lock and key and deported after detention,” said victim advocate Surena Ettefagh. Because it was a long ordeal for the 38-year-old wife and mother of three. The defendant is fifteen years old and they are a couple. If the woman wants a divorce in 2018, there will first be sexual assaults against her will. The still-husband doesn’t stop at rape either. While telling him that she wants to get married again soon, the 44-year-old freaks out: “I’ll burn down the apartment and the car and kill you, your boyfriend and me if I see him anywhere with our kids!”

When asked about the charges by Judge Martin Mitteregger, the accused mimicked the innocent lamb: “We had a good marriage. The only reason she wanted a divorce was because my father had interfered too much in our lives. Everything she says is a lie. She wants to put me in front of the kids and make them feel like I’m not a good father.” But witnesses weigh heavily on the defendant. In the end, the jury panel agreed on the question of guilt. The verdict: three and a half years in prison and 4,000 euros in compensation for pain and suffering suffered by the victim. The convicted person wants to appeal against this.
