After years of secret investigations on the internet, the Swiss police have unmasked more than 2,200 pedophiles worldwide. Thanks to Operation Ninja Turtle, suspects were arrested in Switzerland, France, Brazil, Croatia, Peru, Romania and Spain, among others.
Some of those arrested had used the child pornographic material, others had abused children themselves, the police reported on Tuesday. The studies date from 2012.
At that time, the Swiss officials received information that a person from Aargau canton was using the pseudonym “Ninja Turtle” to distribute illegal pornographic material through the Gigatribe platform. Data can be exchanged anonymously on the platform.
Smuggled undercover onto the platform
The tracks led to a 62-year-old German who was arrested that same year and convicted in 2015. The Swiss police then executed a plan to use his profile as “Ninja Turtle” to infiltrate the platform and thus expose other pedo criminals.
