Willibald (96) and Irene (94) Nozin from Weppersdorf are the oldest couple in Burgenland. On June 4, the two lovebirds, who have four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, will celebrate their 74th wedding anniversary.
“Actually, I was only going to play Postillon d’Amour and deliver love letters from my colleague Walter. But when I stood in front of this beautiful woman from Burgenland with the dark eyes and black hair, it hit me!” tells Willibald Nozin (96) enthusiastically about his great love Irene (94).
When the Viennese and the woman from Zemendorf met in the federal capital in 1946, she was a 16-year-old student and he was a 20-year war veteran who worked as a carpenter and later as a bus driver: “I was in Russian captivity and had a shaved head. head and never a girlfriend. I was all the happier when Irene reciprocated my feelings.
In good and bad times
The couple got to know each other for three years before they dared to walk down the aisle in 1949. Soon after, they become parents of two sons. They both buried her last year.
“Raimund was only 65 years old and died of colon cancer within eight days just before Mother’s Day. His 72-year-old brother Richard followed at Christmas. He had smoked himself to death. His lungs couldn’t keep up. It’s awful when your own children walk in front of you “, says Irene Nozin with tears in her eyes.
The fire of love
Fate can be really cruel, says her husband, but they can’t complain: “Only our love is a blessing! Who has been awarded so many beautiful years together?”
And how does love stay fresh? “Very simple: you have to go to bed early every day”, the cheerful pensioner giggles. Although eroticism diminishes with age, he says, friendly love also has its appeal: “You can talk honestly.”
Until death do us part
The Nozins have always spared themselves scenes of jealousy and threats of divorce, preferring to explore all of Europe in their caravan. But have they always been faithful to each other? “I hope so, otherwise there will be deaths!” jokes Irene Nozin.
“Don’t worry, I’ve never had any secrets from you,” Willibald swears and bursts into a declaration of love: “I hope we die together. But before that I want to experience the Crown Jewels wedding with you next year. 75 years in a cozy get-together – no one can just copy that.”
