The 32-year-old Slovenian, who delivered an assault rifle to the later Viennese assassin in June 2020 and a pistol with suitable ammunition to Vienna three months later, gratefully received his sentence, which was announced on Wednesday. He was put on nine months’ probation.
The 32-year-old was even threatened with a prison sentence of up to two years. “We will not appeal,” said authority spokeswoman Nina Bussek on Wednesday evening. With the prosecution waiving an appeal, the 32-year-old will escape prison if he is well behaved – which is the length of the probation – for the next three years and is not guilty of anything.
There was no evidence of any other charges
The prosecution lacked evidence that he was involved with the terrorist organization and contributed to the murder of the assassin. Due to an error by the public prosecutor, the Slovenian could no longer be prosecuted for the assault rifle he had brought to Vienna. That was then criticized Justice Minister Alma Zadic in the following words: “An unacceptable mistake.”
Life imprisonment for arms dealers
The man who brokered the arms deal for the Viennese attacker was sentenced to life imprisonment. Unlike the 32-year-old, the prosecution initially assumed that the Chechen-born man was part of the terrorist’s terrorist network. Besides, he should have known that would be killed with the firearms he obtained.
