After the traffic blockade in the northern German city of Stralsund, where a climate activist was hit on Wednesday (see video above), the competent court must decide on the duration of the suspension of the truck driver’s driving licence. However, there are still some uncertainties about the incident, in which no one was injured.
“We will present this to a judge today,” a Stralsund prosecutor’s office spokesman told dpa news agency on Thursday.
Young demonstrator was pushed forward a meter
Six blockades had hindered traffic on a main thoroughfare in Stralsund on Wednesday. The 41-year-old truck driver partially pulled three participants off the road in his direction of travel and threatened to hit them, a police spokesman said.
The man then got behind the wheel and drove off. A young demonstrator, who was sitting on the road right in front of the bumper, was pushed forward about a meter. According to police, no one was seriously injured.
The truck stopped, the blocker got up, the truck driver kept going. In the evening he turned himself in to the police in Grimmen, who “temporarily took away his papers”.
A judge must decide on such a measure, said the spokesman. It is also still unclear whether the truck driver could see that someone was sitting in front of his vehicle again.
Attempted assault?
Police are investigating the truck driver on suspicion of attempted assault. The climate activists are being investigated for violating the assembly law and the suspicion of coercion in road traffic.
