A Moldovan with 19 migrants in a van, including a pregnant woman, sped off in front of “Operation Fox” officials. The chase started in Hungary and ended in Burgenland.
As part of a cross-border campaign against illegal migration, “Operation Fox” officials were deployed to Hungarian territory on Wednesday. Shortly after 1 p.m., a suspicious vehicle came into the sight of the special investigators. When the police tried to stop the illegal transport, the driver stepped on the accelerator and raced to Austria. The attempt to stop the escape at the border crossing in Halbturn also failed. The persecution, which had already begun in Hungary, continued at a rapid pace in the district of Neusiedl am See.
At a hellish pace on the country road
At speeds of up to 180 km/h, the criminal driver rumbled relentlessly down the provincial road – with 19 Syrians as passengers, including two women, one of whom was pregnant. The final stop of the tractor was at the Mönchhof exit. With combined forces, the researchers were able to put an end to the descent into hell. The driver from Moldova jumped out of the car and ran away, the police immediately followed. After a few hundred meters, the agents caught up with the escaped smuggler. The suspect has been arrested and taken for questioning.
The investigation was far from over on Wednesday evening. The investigations probably lasted well into the night.
