“Could Have Died” – Boys Tortured the Homeless: Attempted Murder

Date:

A case that leaves you speechless: three young people brutally tortured a homeless person in Kapfenberg in Styria, filmed their actions and shared the videos. Now it’s clear: you’re being charged with attempted murder!

Pure horror was on the face of many a trial listener in December 2022 when three young defendants (16, 18, 19) gave their statements without emotion to the then chairman of the jury committee, Sabine Anzenberger. They were charged on suspicion of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm.

The Carinthian, a Salzburger and a Styrian had randomly chosen a former landlady who had become homeless as the defenseless victim of the beating. They just kicked her in the back at a bridge in Kapfenberg. Only a bush prevented a fall into the cold Mürz.

“Yes, She Could Have Been Dead”
The next day they visited the homeless again. Not just that they urinated on her. No, they hit the woman screaming in pain with punches and kicks from top to bottom in the face. Although her head was on the pavement and she was already bleeding profusely, they continued. Until she stopped moving! “Yes, she could have been dead,” the defendants admitted. Which, given the injuries the woman sustained, was very likely!

Instead of offering help, the youths simply waited. “It was agreed not to call an ambulance,” one of the boys told the court. They were busted for sharing videos of their cowardly attacks on social media. A person who received it contacted a counselor, who in turn reported it.

Charged with attempted murder
It was clear to Judge Sabine Anzenberger that this could only be attempted murder and so she issued a judgment of incompetence. This has now been confirmed by the Higher Regional Court. For example, the three young men have to answer for attempted murder. According to the regional court in Leoben, no date has yet been set.
