Unemployment fell in May by 726 people in the BAC and 832 in Navarre

Registered unemployment fell by 726 in May in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) and by 832 in Navarre, representing a decrease of 0.67% and 2.70% respectively compared to the previous month.

Regarding May 2022, there were 6,077 fewer unemployed persons registered with the Basque Employment Service, representing an annual decrease of 5.36%. In Navarre, the year-on-year decline was 6.39%, ie there are 2,050 fewer unemployed than in the same month of the previous year.

The amount total number of unemployed it is 107,275 in the BAC and 30,012 in Navarra.

Unemployment has fallen again in all areas of the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV), all ages, between men and women, and across sectors in general. In addition, the affiliation to Social Security has grown again and the threshold of million donors.

Alava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa lowered their unemployment figures in May. In Gipuzkoa there are 167 fewer unemployed (0.59%) compared to April, in Bizkaia 495 fewer (0.81%) and in Álava 64 fewer (0.34%). Compared to May 2022, the decrease was 7.05% in Gipuzkoa (2,125 fewer people), 5.56% in Bizkaia (3,546 fewer people), and 2.09% in Álava (406 fewer people).

In the set of Spanish stateregistered unemployment has fallen by 49,260 people (1.77%) to 2,739,110 unemployed, which is 183,881 fewer than in May 2022. The registered unemployment rate is the lowest in a month of May in 2008.

Assessment of the Basque Government

Deputy Hendakari and Minister of Labor of the Basque Government, Idoia Mendia, has emphasized that 64,000 jobs have been created in this legislature in the Basque Autonomous Community, which she describes as “an exceptional figure that has been achieved against all odds”.
