Everyone who drives towards Sopron via Klingenbach knows the old sugar factory Siegendorf. Now the country is thinking of a mega coup. In this way, it wants to secure the location and enable the establishment of new, future-oriented companies in Burgenland.
Northern Burgenland is one of the most emerging regions in Central Europe. In particular, the location in Siegendorf is treated as an insider tip by industry experts, as Vienna and Bratislava are an hour away and Eisenstadt and Sopron are 10 minutes away, where the M85 motorway is about to be completed.
In addition, there is potential for innovation in Siegendorf – keyword revitalization of the former sugar factory, part of which is listed as a historical monument. It was built in 1853 by Konrad Patzenhofer and sold in 1992 to the industrialist Anton Krobath. Since then, Industrieterrein Oost (GZO) has been housed on the site.
Beginning of a new era
Creative projects for the area have been in the pipeline for quite some time. But now there are some indications that a new era could actually be dawning here. It is rumored that Anton Krobath is considering selling the largest commercial and industrial park in Burgenland – the floor space is over one million square meters.
The 75-year-old has already retired to his home in Upper Austria for personal reasons. He only sporadically visited the director’s villa that he had bought with him. His daughter Maria Krobath – she is a qualified real estate agent, managing partner of the East business park and owner of the Enns business park – and his grandson Alexander Krobath – he is a real estate agent and project developer – would be in favor of a sale.
Hot reserve for further structural planning
The state of Burgenland would be a potential buyer. Close associates of Governor Doskozil confirm to the “Krone” that the country is actually considering buying the former sugar factory.
“This building is very interesting because of its history, but also because it could fulfill its function as an external depot for various inventories. They can also be kept in reserve for other structural planning.
Property is checked
The Burgenland Business Agency also confirms that Krobath Immobilien GmbH wants to sell the area “for strategic reasons”. “We are constantly looking for suitable areas suitable for the establishment of new, promising companies for Burgenland. Since the areas have already been closed off, the modernization and further use of a brownfield area, with existing concessions and infrastructural facilities, would sustainable and desirable,” explains Managing Director Harald Zagiczek.
And what does that mean concretely? “We are investigating the building and whether the location can be used sustainably. The process for this will take several weeks to be able to present a decision-making document with accompanying advice to the decision-makers. At the moment we have no indication of the purchase price.”
