US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of a complete strategic failure in the offensive war against Ukraine. There is no doubt that Russia today is in a much worse position militarily, economically and geopolitically than it was before the invasion of Ukraine, Blinken said on Friday.
Putin has significantly weakened Russia’s power and influence over the years. Russia is now more isolated on the world stage than ever before.

Blinken traveled to Sweden this week, then Norway and Finland, where he met with outgoing Prime Minister Sanna Marin and Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto on Friday.
In his speech, he stressed that Putin spent two decades transforming the Russian army into a modern fighting force. The Kremlin has often claimed to have the second strongest army in the world, and many believed it. Today, many consider the Russian army to be the second most powerful – in Ukraine. From equipment to leadership and strategy to morale, Russia’s approach is “a case study in failure,” Blinken said.
Moreover, the Russian economy today is a shadow in itself and only a fragment of what it could have become if Putin had invested more in technology and innovation than in weapons and war.
China calls for end of arms shipments to Ukraine war
China, in turn, is demanding an end to arms shipments to the combat zone in Ukraine. After returning from talks to resolve the conflict, China’s special envoy Li Hui said in Beijing on Friday that he felt neither Russia nor Ukraine had slammed the door on negotiations. “We must stop sending weapons to the battlefield, otherwise we will only increase the risk of escalating tensions,” he told China’s state television. There must be a ceasefire and peace negotiations.
