The Aesculapian snake was unlucky when it was washed into the natural pool of the Maibachl near Warmbad-Villach through the long inlet pipe on Friday. “I suddenly saw something fall into the water and only then realized it was an Esculapic snake,” says German biologist Dominik Gietl, who had made a stopover in Warmbad with his fiancée on his way to Croatia. He immediately pulled the weakened snake out of the water. Reptile expert Helga Happ was called to the scene via animal shelter Villach and rushed to Villach to adopt the Aesculapian snake.
