A five-year-old from Monument, Colorado, recently became part of a special group of people: Jacob Young was accepted into the Mensa club for gifted children. He scored in the top one percent on the intelligence test, which took several hours.
Jacob Young is part of a military family: his father Joshua works in the Space Force and his mother Renee is a data analyst. He is actually interested in similar topics to boys his age, such as airplanes, sharks, space and the Titanic. Unlike his classmates, the smart boy wants to know in detail how airplanes work and which shark species are the fastest. This can pose challenges for his parents.
“He watches documentaries with us. He likes the History Channel,” Renee told American media. “The conversations are similar to the conversations you have in high school or college, but they take place at the dinner table with our five-year-old.”
Boy needs to meet like-minded people in a club
His parents had his intelligence quotient and giftedness tested by a doctor. Finally, he told the parents about the gifted association Mensa. This could be a great way to help him meet like-minded people and challenge him outside the school environment, the doctor recommended.
In the club’s several-hour test, the boy finished in the top one percent. The youngest member in the United States is Kashe Quest, who joined Mensa in 2021 at the age of two with an IQ of 146.
