In Tyrol’s Kössen (Kitzbühel district), 19 fawns have already been found this year by drones in the farmers’ fields and brought to safety for mowing. The local mountain rescuers also helped.
Alexander Gruschina, who lives consciously, and Josef Pfaffinger are drone pilots who help prevent animal suffering in Kössen in their spare time early in the morning. Since May, they have searched 80 fields of 28 farmers with the municipal drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera. They have already had great success – 19 fawns owe their lives to the volunteers!
Gruschina immediately agreed
The game warden approached Kirchdorf native Gruschina with a request to help rescue fawns as a drone pilot. Gruschina immediately agreed.
The effort is of course enormous. “For the first flights, I had to program the data from all the fields on the computer, and there were talks with the farmers,” says the IT specialist. Hunters and farmers teamed up to support the rescue of the fawns, who would otherwise be exposed to the reapers.
Drone can not only find missing persons
And the mountain rescue team in Kössen also emphasized their animal-friendly attitude. “We always participate in operations,” says local manager Michael Fahringer. Otherwise, the mountain rescuers themselves use the community drone to search for missing persons.
“The drone flies automatically. If she discovers something, I immediately take over by hand,” says Gruschina. If found, the fawns are chased out of the field or protected with a basket. Then the farmers have to mow quickly. “We recently discovered twin brothers. Rescuing them was a very nice experience,” says the drone pilot with satisfaction. By the way, the following commands are already fixed
