Around noon, the 42-year-old drove a truck on Serfaus Landesstraße from Roppen towards Serfaus. “At turn 8, the Austrian noticed a strange noise coming from the truck, which was no longer roadworthy,” said the police. At the same time, flames were already coming out of the engine compartment. The truck driver was able to get out of the cab unharmed and dialed the emergency call.
The fire brigade prevented the burning dike
The volunteer fire brigades in Fiss and Ried im Oberinntal were able to quickly get the fire in the front part of the truck under control and prevent it from spreading to a nearby embankment. “The L19 was closed to all traffic in the area of the accident site until approximately 3:15 p.m. for the duration of the clearance and recovery work, and a local diversion was set up,” the management explains. The FFW Fiss was deployed with about 30 emergency services and five vehicles, the FFW Ried iO with about 10 emergency services and two vehicles.
