The subject of violence against women has not only become topical since the scandals surrounding the band Rammstein. The focus is often on the women. We focus on men and the Tyrolean men’s advisory service and have spoken with the association “Mannsbilder” and State Councilor Eva Pawlata (SPÖ).
Pepper spray in the handbag, guidance offers for women on the MPreis voucher, self-defense courses for girls, parking places for women – all this is necessary. In the sense that it should prevent an emergency, because the statistics on violence against women in Austria are sad: every third person is affected by violence, physical, verbal, sexual.
Twelve women have already been murdered in Austria this year. The perpetrators often come from the area, almost always men. And yet the main focus is on the women when it comes to how many of them are beaten, raped, abused and murdered. But what about the men? Why does violence seem to play such a big role with men – against women as well as against other men?
