The large-scale operation took place at around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Shortly before that, the car train drove through the Terfentunnel near Fritzens (Innsbruck-Land district). About 700 emergency services from the fire brigade, ambulance, police and authorities came to the scene. 33 people were taken to nearby hospitals with minor injuries.
Train restored, no restrictions on rail traffic
The night train that caught fire was recovered on Thursday morning and driven back to Innsbruck’s main station. The onward journey of the approximately 50 passengers who were taken to Innsbruck was organized. There are no rail traffic restrictions. According to ÖBB, the trains can be diverted.
