Italian Navy special forces on Friday afternoon liberated a Turkish ship in the Gulf of Naples that was hijacked by 15 migrants after they were discovered as stowaways on board. The Italian Marine Brigade San Marco intervened with helicopters to regain control of the ship, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto reported.
The migrants used knives to subdue the Galata Seaways’ 22-strong crew. The men hid aboard the ship, which departed from the port of Topcular in Turkey on Wednesday and was bound for France.
Ship deviated from planned route
