A serious accident occurred on Sunday morning at a tractor vintage meeting in Thüringen (Bludenz district in Vorarlberg). During the preparation of a so-called tractor pull, one of the tractors overturned on its rear axle and buried the 26-year-old driver underneath. The driver had to be treated by an ambulance team.
Actually, the tractor pulling competition should be the highlight of a classic car meeting. The rules are simple: powerful tractors pull a heavy pulling sled – and whoever gets the furthest with the heaviest weight wins.
Paradoxically, the accident itself happened when the empty pull sled was pulled back to the starting line: it dug so deep into the ground at the edge of the terrain that the tractor’s front axle suddenly lifted and the entire tractor tipped over backwards. The 26-year-old driver didn’t stand a chance, he was trapped.
The tractor driver was rescued by bystanders within a very short time and then first aid was provided by an emergency medical team. Police said the man had to be flown by helicopter to Feldkirch State Hospital after receiving first aid.
