On Sunday afternoon, a 46-year-old motorist in Wettmannstätten (Deutschlandsberg district) went off the road, crashed into a tree and was injured to an undetermined degree.
Around 2.20 pm, a 46-year-old from the Deutschlandsberg district steered her car on the L303 coming from the direction of Preding towards Pistorf. In the right rear passenger seat was a seven-year-old girl. Suddenly, the driver with her car – in her own words because of microsleep – left the road to the right, touched the road control devices and drove past the ditch to a water culvert. There, the vehicle took off from a sloping sewer shaft and entered another uphill driveway, where the car crashed into a tree and came to a stop.
The 46-year-old driver was taken to UKH Graz by the Red Cross with injuries of undetermined extent and the alcohol test carried out was negative. The girl was unharmed.
The vehicle was badly damaged, due to the investigations at the scene and the subsequent rescue work, the L303 was only passable in one lane from 2:20 pm to 3:45 pm.
