Media magnate and former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi died on Monday at the age of 86. This is reported by Italian media. There was initially no official confirmation.
According to La Repubblica newspaper, Berlusconi died on Monday morning at Milan’s San Raffaele Hospital. Berlusconi was visited on Monday by his children Marina, Eleonora, Barbara and Pier Silvio Berlusconi. He was only admitted there on Friday for examination in connection with his chronic leukemia.
Prime Minister four times
Berlusconi shaped Italian politics for nearly 30 years. Between 1994 and 2011, he served as Prime Minister of Italy four times. Most recently, the billionaire was involved as president of the ruling centre-right party Forza Italia.
Aside from his political career, Berlusconi has repeatedly been the focus of the world’s public attention due to corruption scandals and his infamous bunga-bunga parties.
