A 69-year-old from Salzburg slipped 200 meters down a slope during a walk in Lofer (Pinzgau) on Monday. He was discovered and recovered hours later.
The man from Salzburg left for a mountain tour in the morning to the Traunspitz Hörndl in the Loferer Steinberge. Under the Rotschädl he slid almost 200 meters down the slope at an altitude of 2130 meters on snow. The man suffered injuries to his head and body from stones under the snow cover.
Police helicopters in action
Only in the afternoon was he spotted through his telescope by a hunter. The alerted rescuers searched for the injured hiker with a police helicopter and provided first aid. An emergency helicopter took the 69-year-old with injuries and hypothermia to Salzburg University Hospital.
