Bugs, secret service, spies: what may seem like exciting ideas for an action movie are practically everyday life for Ukrainian army chief Valeriy Zalushnyj. A listening device has now been discovered in one of his offices. Some of his employees were also ‘bugged’.
Army Chief Saluschny must move to a new office. However, to rule out any unpleasant events, the Ukrainian security service took a closer look at the property. The Ukrainian security service describes on its website that a recording device has been discovered.
However, there was no evidence that information had been stored or transferred anywhere. The device would now be examined. Criminal proceedings have been initiated.
Employees of the military chief were also tapped, a military source told the Ukrainian online newspaper “Ukrainska Pravda”.
However, former Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Anna Maljar was unimpressed. Ultimately, the military is always careful in its communications; the possibility of information leakage is always taken into account.
Are Saluschnyj and Zelenskyj in a clinch?
Since November, there has been speculation about a possible conflict between Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Zelensky and the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces.
The starting point was an interview with the international weekly magazine ‘The Economist’, in which Saluzhnyj described that the war had reached a ‘dead end’ and could now drag on for years.
Zelensky did not support this view of things and later said that the military should not interfere in politics. At the same time, however, the president denied that there was a division between the country’s political and military leadership.
