Monday’s large-scale WEGA operation in Vienna-Favoriten still causes horror. A 24-year-old had pointed a gun out of an apartment window. Fortunately, the officers were able to prevent worse and arrest the shooter. The reason for the act remains unclear, but the police were able to find something else when they arrested the apartment.
At around 8 p.m., frightened passers-by alerted police after seeing the 24-year-old standing by the window in daylight with his long rifle pointed out the window. An observant “Krone” reader reporter had witnessed the large-scale operation.
Dozens of agents on duty
A short time later, Laxenburger Straße was cordoned off after dozens of heavily armed and helmeted police officers and WEGA agents were deployed around Rotenhofgasse and Davidgasse.
Fortunately, there were no threats or kidnappings. He was home alone at the time, according to police.
The operation ended after a short time
The man would have legally owned the weapon. The gun and ammunition have been seized by the police. Shortly after the arrest, a gun ban was issued against the gunman. The operation ended around 8:30 pm.
The questioning of the 24-year-old is still pending. He is in police custody and is being reported on suspicion of dangerous threats and violations of the Narcotics Act.
