Does milk without an AMA quality mark come from abroad? The “crown” explains.
If it says Lower Austria, is it also Lower Austria? Not if you believe the rumor mill: the local dairy company NÖM buys cheaper milk from abroad and is therefore no longer allowed to carry the AMA quality mark for certain products, according to the allegations. The “Krone” questioned the traditional company in Baden and confronted the management with the claims.
Milk from family farms
“The milk of all products produced at the NÖM sites comes exclusively from 2,500 family farms,” explains spokeswoman Christina Keil. For capacity reasons, the milk does not only come from Niederösterreich, but only from farmers in Eastern Styria and Burgenland.
The fact that many products do not (any longer) carry the AMA quality mark is only due to the fact that these goods are also available abroad: “In our export markets, where we now have a share of 43 percent, white-red seal not behaved for reasons of meaningfulness, as understood only in Austria.”
