After the deadly bull attack in Aurach am Hungarian in Upper Austria, “agriculture rebel” Leo Steinbichler mourns the death of the father of three children. The expert warns: the box is more dangerous than the binding attitude.
“Andi was really a great person, helpful, reliable, with handshake quality. We are all very touched. He was really a good-hearted person!”, “Agricultural Rebel” Leo Steinbichler from Aurach am Hungary mourns his neighbor Andreas Z. (45), whose farm is only 300 meters from his.
One of his twin sons (18) found his father in the cow shed around 5 p.m. on Saturday. He was seriously injured by a bull while working in the stables. The father of three children was taken to the hospital after resuscitation, where he died due to his internal injuries, we are talking about a ruptured aorta – we have already reported.
Fewer and fewer accidents
The number of industrial accidents in agriculture is decreasing both across Austria and in Upper Austria and has more than halved in the last decade, according to the Social Insurance Institution for the Self-Employed (SVS). There were 552 occupational accidents in Upper Austria last year. Ten years ago, however, there were 1255. The share of industrial accidents involving animals is also interesting: last year there were 505 nationally, of which 142 in Upper Austria.
Many causes
According to an SVS expert, a mix of causes is responsible for accidents at work with animals: on the one hand the ever-growing farms, on the other hand more loose stables instead of tied stables. Something that Steinbichler also confirms: “The animal therefore lacks a natural bond with humans.” Incidentally, most of these accidents happen during routine processes such as cleaning the barn.
