The Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed a matricide charge against a 22-year-old at the Regional Criminal Court. The suspect is accused of deliberately murdering the 54-year-old woman on February 28, 2023 in her top-floor apartment in Liesing by stabbing her several times in the back and neck with a kitchen knife.
There is no trial date yet, reports say the jury trial could take place in August. The suspect risks ten to twenty years in prison – and also accommodation in a forensic therapeutic center. According to a psychiatric report, the 22-year-old man was sane at the time of the crime, but would have a personality structure that, without therapeutic measures, gives reason to fear that he will commit another crime with serious consequences .
In the event of a conviction, the Public Prosecution Service therefore applied for placement in prison on the basis of the risk assessment drawn up by the expert, pursuant to Article 21(2) of the Penal Code.
Perpetrator was considered a high-risk business
The 22-year-old was considered a high-risk case by authorities. The mother would have been warned several times by the police about her son for fear of a violent crime. He was not allowed to enter and approach his mother three times because of his mother’s place of residence. However, he did not attend mandatory counseling appointments for violent offenders.
Unstable and mentally unstable
The 22-year-old had visited the mother in her apartment on the evening of February 28 – at that time there was no travel ban. The man was considered unstable and mentally unstable, in 2022 he would have been treated in a hospital for several weeks. After the 54-year-old let her son into the apartment, an argument broke out, the 22-year-old grabbed a knife and stabbed, according to his own words after his arrest.
