On Friday morning, the two young people (14 and 17) who were previously detained and who, together with another suspect (20), would have planned an attack on the Vienna Rainbow Parade (Pride), were released. The prosecutor’s office has filed a complaint.
Court spokeswoman Birgit Eisenmagen confirmed the release on Friday. Due to the appeal of the public prosecutor’s office, the decision is not final. Immediately after the court’s decision, the 14-year-old’s lawyer, Andreas Schweitzer, was relieved and pleased that his client had been released.
“Here, the Directorate of State Security and Intelligence (DSN) aimed their guns at sparrows. And not hit. Although the 14-year-old is really a sparrow,” said Schweitzer.
Arrested right before Pride
After the allegedly planned attack on the Vienna Rainbow Parade last Saturday, three suspects (14, 17 and 20) were arrested shortly before the start of the event. One of them was released a short time later. The other two have since been detained.
Several weapons seized
The Viennese police managed to prevent an attack on the rainbow parade in Vienna in time and to secure several weapons during a house search. The three allegedly belong to a radical Islamic, international Telegram group with a dozen participants.
In the chat group, attack plans would have been discussed and the 14-year-old would have downloaded instructions for building an explosive device on his smartphone. With the current court order, all three suspects, who are being investigated for terrorist organization and criminal organization, are free again.
