Republicans want US President Joe Biden out of the Senate. They accuse him of “abuse of power” and “breach of official duties”. A process for a possible impeachment procedure has now been initiated.
Should the House of Representatives vote in favor of such a procedure in plenary, members of the Senate could remove Biden from office by a two-thirds majority. Since the Democrats have the majority in the Senate, this scenario is considered extremely unlikely. Biden’s party members see the move merely as an attempt to divert attention from ex-President Donald Trump’s trials. Republicans are extreme, Democrat Hakeem Jeffries said. They also “do nothing to improve the health, safety, or economic well-being of the American people.”
Two such cases against Trump
Trump was impeached twice during his time in the White House, first because of the so-called Ukraine affair and later because of the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Republicans disagree on Biden. One of them is now leading an investigation into allegations of abuse of power and dereliction of duty. Republicans have filed 12 impeachment requests this year alone against members of the administration, including Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
