After a long break, activists of the last generation again blocked traffic in Graz on Friday. The demonstrators held onto the street at the intersection of Karlauergurt/Lazarettgurtel and Triester Strasse, causing long traffic jams and nerves on motorists’ nerves.
On Friday morning around 07:45, the climate stickers in Graz started another protest action. Five activists held on to the busy Karlauergurt/Lazarettgurtel intersection. A few hundred meters further they blocked Triester Strasse. The activists paralyzed busy commuter routes.

Motorists responded with an aggressive horn concerto, many with wild insults. The mood was loaded. Some drivers tried to pull the demonstrators off the road themselves before the police arrived.
“I have to go to work, it’s a disaster,” a commuter from Leibnitz shook her head. “They should peck at the government and not terrorize working people.”
“Shortly before we start, we always inform the rescue center,” says Graz activist Leon Ranz, who has been involved in several protests.
“We will not stop”
The demands of the activists remain unchanged: 100 km/h on the Autobahn and a ban on new oil and gas drilling. “Actually, almost ridiculously small demands,” says Leon Ranz, adding, “I’d like it better if we didn’t have to sit here. But as long as the government doesn’t take serious steps, we’ll continue.”
Around 09:00 the blockades were lifted by the police and traffic was able to move on again.
